It still pays to think global

Article Abstract:

It is important to retain an international element in your investment portfolio, despite recent declines on some markets. Having an international element allows you to benefit from the fact that economies around the world are usually at different stages of the economic cycle. However, it is important to be aware that investing overseas can bring financial and time burdens. One of the wisest approaches to investing internationally is to save a set amount each month.

The tricky world of the trade in trusts

Article Abstract:

Investors who are willing to accept a certain amount of risk should consider investment trusts, which are usually higher risk or more speculative than unit trusts in the short- to medium-term. Standard investment trusts can be more rewarding than other pooled investments. Warrants, which carry a high level of risk, attract no dividends. They are issued by trusts to obtain additional capital. Split capital shares also carry a high level of risk.

A world of opportunity

Article Abstract:

Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) allow access to a wide range of investment options. Indeed, an investment ISA can cover almost all sectors except specialist venture capital trusts. Cautious investors can invest through an ISA in investment trusts trading in second-hand endowment with profits policies. It is likely that investment trusts, which did not qualify under personal equity plans, will derive the most significant benefits from ISAs.
