'It wasn't right but it had to be done. There was a war going on.'

Article Abstract:

The attack by Ulster Defence Association gunmen on a pub in Greysteel, Northern Ireland, in 1993 is discussed. This was one of several incidents that actually served to revive the peace process, rather than destroy it.

Much can go wrong, but more looks right

Article Abstract:

The peace agreement in Northern Ireland has the potential to bring stability, but there are also elements which cause some observers to believe that Northern Ireland's future remains uncertain. In particular, extreme republicans and extreme loyalists could work together to bring down the peace agreement. However, those involved in negotiating the peace deal have developed a strong sense of common purpose, and this will play a key role in sustaining the deal through the uncertainties of the immediate future.

Prayers for peace have been answered

Article Abstract:

There is now a strong feeling that peace really can be achieved in Northern Ireland. The result of the referendum on the peace agreement indicates that most nationalists in both Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic desire peace, as does the Clinton administration and the world in general. The peace agreement also has the support of the main political parties in Northern Ireland, the Irish Republic and Great Britain, apart from the Democratic Unionists.
