It's a great job Gordon, so get on and make the most of it

Article Abstract:

UK Chancellor Gordon Brown's political career seems to have been damaged by the decision of his strongest supporters to reveal his view that he could, and possibly should, have become prime minister. He could in theory threaten Tony Blair, but there are no indications that he intends to do so. He has clearly made a valuable contribution to New Labour, but he must recognize that other senior ministers are permitted to express their opinions on the general thrust of policy. He needs to enjoy the Chancellorship in its own right, rather than seeing it as a step towards higher political office.

Labour's ruin or redemption lies with Gordon Brown

Article Abstract:

Shadow chancellor Gordon Brown will play a key role in the success or failure of the UK Labour party in the foreseeable future. If he were to leave the party, its centre of gravity would shift aware from the modernisers, and his departure would be a serious blow to party leader Tony Blair. Brown is particularly influential in converting the tough messages of modernism into a language with which the party feels at ease.

Flash Gordon gets off to a flying start

Article Abstract:

New UK Chancellor Gordon Brown has been preparing for his role for some time, and has therefore been able to take immediate action. He has proved wrong those who claimed that a new Labour government would not be noticeably different from the old Conservative one, and has already shown that he is prepared to innovate and take risks. This is reflected in his decision to undertake radical reform at the Bank of England.
