Two-thirds of Americans polled believe that President Bill Clinton did have sex with Monica Lewinsky. However, they seem to be prepared to overlook this, and it appears that Clinton will not be forced out of office. People who are willing to forgive Clinton appear to believe that male sexuality is somehow uncontrollable, even in the most powerful man in the world. Americans seem to care more about the country's economic strength than about the fact that they are being governed by a man who is known to have lied.

Those who argue that President Bill Clinton's private life has been blown out of all proportion seem to be indicating that some abuses of power can be dismissed more lightly than others. It is important to remember that politicians can never be above the law, and that even presidents have to accept that there are certain limitations. Clinton has shown worrying lack of judgement, and his apparent lack of concern about the dangers of being caught in an extra-marital relationship makes him look ridiculous.
