Article Abstract:

Journalist and publisher John F. Kennedy Jr was the first child ever born to a US President-elect. He attracted extensive media attention from a very early age, although his mother sought to protect him following the assassination of his father in 1963. He visited South Africa in 1980, and on his return founded the South African Group for Education. He graduated from Brown University, Rhode Island, in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in History, and in 1986 enrolled at New York University Law School in Manhattan. He subsequently joined the District Attorney's office, but abandoned a career in law to launch George magazine in 1995.

Article Abstract:

Archives reveal new evidence about the Cuban Missile Crisis, the thirtieth anniversary of which occurs in Oct 1992. Soviet leader Khrushchev was accused by President Kennedy of intending to place nuclear missiles in Cuba. Leaders of all countries involved misconstrued each others' intentions, which could have accidentally or deliberately led to all-out nuclear war. Kennedy and Krushchev had to communicate quickly at a time when cable took eight to ten hours.
