Article Abstract:

There is a view that only young people should be allowed to enjoy sex, and that older people are permitted to love each other but should not have sex. The few older women who are featured in photographs in the media tend to disguise their age to appear much younger. Attitudes to sex reflect narcissism among younger people. Older people do enjoy sex lives, though some become too afraid to do so and lose intimacy. Sex is good for couples of any age, and the aged can have sex on their own terms, accepting their bodily changes.

Sex has become a defining feature of modern live, and is seen as vital to society's sense of fulfilment and happiness. Within this culture, adultery has gained a key status, attracting great media attention. It is now time to develop a greater understanding of the history of sex and the history of marriage, allowing society to modify its obsession with sex, and adultery in particular.
