Ken and Nancy's rock 'n' roll circus

Article Abstract:

EMI Recorded Music Pres Ken Berry is currently facing considerable challenges. The company's top groups, including the Spice Girls and the Rolling Stones, have not performed as well as expected, and its share price has fallen by 21% since early 1997. Furthermore, controversy surrounds Berry's decision to make his wife Nancy vice chairman of Virgin Records American. There have been allegations that she treats her subordinates badly, and even claims that she has had affairs with recording artists.

Farewell CDs, hello hard disk

Article Abstract:

Eurodat's Paris Music project, which allows users to download sound recordings from their hard disk for a credit card payment, has attracted interest from leading UK record labels Warners, EMI, Sony, BMG and Polygram. The UK companies have been impressed with the copyright protection which has been established by Eurodat and Kleline, which operates the payment system, and believe that the Internet could be a useful means of selling music which is not particularly popular.

Article Abstract:

Musicunsigned.com and Peoplesound.com have very different origins, but both offer exposure on the Internet for unsigned bands.
