Kennedy reveals talks with Blair to extend pact

Article Abstract:

Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy has agreed with UK Prime Minister Tony Blair to hold further talks about the future of relations between the Liberal Democrats and the Labour party after the 1999 party conference season. He indicates that he had a very cordial meeting with Blair and that he assured Blair that the Liberal Democrats will continue to pursue a policy of constructive opposition. He recognizes that his relationship with Blair will be different from that of former Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown.
