The most succesful leisure company is First Leisure, led by Lord Delfont and John Conlan. Head of Allied Leisure Richard Carr runs Megabowls. David Crossland made Airtours' equity a tradeable commodity. Eurocamp was built up by Richard Atkinson and Tom Nevill. Vardon, headed by Nick Irens, is expanding. European Leisure's Ian Rock, Clive Bastin and Patrick Hooper are confident about its prospects. Finance director of Center Parcs Hans Versloot is famous for his knowledge of business statistics.

Maurice stages a talent raid

Article Abstract:

It is thought that Maurice Saatchi, founder and former chairman of advertising agency Saatchi and Saatchi, is trying to recruit as many as 40 members of staff from the agency, which which he is now in dispute. Many of these employees have been working on the British Airways advertising account, which is now the subject of a four-month termination notice. Observers are now speculating about how Maurice Saatchi will finance his new advertising venture.

The brewing industry still faces many administrative and legislative restrictions, according to Sir Paul Nicholson, chairman of brewing concern Vaux. Market conditions are also poor, with beer consumption continuing to fall and brewers facing competition from the strong rise in personal imports of beer from France. The main problem facing the industry is over-capacity, which will force brewers to move in new directions.
