Liz and Mark's satellite love-in

Article Abstract:

Mark Booth, head of BSkyB, and Elisabeth Murdoch, head of BSkyB's Sky Networks division, are seeking to make the UK the most sophisticated provider of digital television in the world. They hope to do this through Sky Digital, which is to be launched on Oct 1, 1998. They are strongly aware that Sky's appeal will have to be extended to the middle and upper classes if this project is to be successful. This is one reason by BSkyB has been praising the BBC, hoping to become associated with the latter's positive image.

Cable firms look for a Hollywood ticket

Article Abstract:

Cable and Wireless Communications may decide not to pursue negotiations with BSkyB over a joint pay-per-view service after the latter was ordered to give up its equity stake in British Digital Broadcasting. It is now believed to be possible that Cable and Wireless will join with the other cable companies in securing Hollywood studio rights. It has been careful not to limit its options for obtaining content for digital cable, and has already linked with Telewest in the On Demand Management consortium.
