Merger talk sends DG and JP Morgan surging

Article Abstract:

A claim by Business Week magazine that JP Morgan of the US is in merger talks with a much larger European bank has led to speculation that this could be Deutsche Bank, which is known to be seeking an acquisition in the US. Although cultural integration could prove difficult, the banks benefit from complementary activities in the corporate finance and advisory sector. Both banks have declined to comment on the rumours.

City staff braced for tidal wave of sackingsas banks cut back

City bankers are bracing themselves for a wave of redundancies as the global financial crisis takes effect. The latest quarterly report of the UK Financial Services industry by the Confederation of British Industry and Pricewaterhouse Coopers showed confidence was at the lowest level for eight years. Firms which have announced lay-offs already include ING Baring, Robert Fleming, Daiwa and Nikko.
