Mature approach

Article Abstract:

Financial matters can sometimes cause considerable problems for mature students, who may suddenly experience a large drop in income. Those who have few commitments and no dependents will generally manage to survive financially, but may need to consider part-time work. For those who have financial commitments such as a mortgage, it is vital to make careful plans before embarking upon higher education. It may be possible to suspend capital repayments on a repayment mortgage, for example, but it is important to budget in advance for commitments which cannot be postponed, such as personal loans.

Party time for punters

Article Abstract:

It seems fairly safe to bet on a victory for the UK Labour party in the forthcoming general election. At present, odds of 1-7 are being offered by William Hill and Ladbrokes on Labour winning the most seats. Someone making this investment would make an annual rate of return of around 84%, much better than the rate of return offered by most investment products. Most people are interested in betting on the size of the Labour party's majority, rather than on whether the party will win.

Where do I find good advice?

Article Abstract:

A financial adviser can play a valuable role in assisting people in making the right decisions when buying financial products. For this reason, it is vital to select the right financial adviser. The best way is to take the recommendation of a friend. If this is not possible, then it is worth contacting IFA Promotion, the Institute of Financial Planning or the Solicitors for Independent Financial Advice helpline.
