Article Abstract:

Argentina President Carlos Menem attended a memorial service at St Paul's Cathedral, London, UK, on October 28 1998 in honour of the 258 British servicemen who died during the Falklands war in 1982. Argentine and British servicemen attended the ceremony and presented a united front, with British soldiers who had been injured during the war welcoming Menem with a handshake. Relatives of servicemen who died in the war also welcomed the act of reconciliation. However, Menem also reaffirmed Argentina's claims to the Falkland Islands.
