Merrill Lynch cutbacks herald cull of thousands of jobs in the City

Article Abstract:

It is expected that many City of London institutions will make redundancies as they experience the repercussions of misguided investments in high-risk markets such as Asia and Russia. Indeed, headhunters anticipate that the City of London's workforce of 375,000 could be reduced by up to 40,000. It has already been announced that there will be 400 redundancies at the London, England, office of Merrill Lynch, where the atmosphere is very tense.
