Mortar, mortar everywhere

Article Abstract:

There is currently extremely strong demand for flats in central London, England. Relatively few flats are being put up for sale, and this means that there is very strong interest in those which are available, even if they are in a relatively poor state of repair. However, some observers feel that this boom will not last, especially in the light of a probable reduction in MIRAS and the forthcoming general election. Many potential vendors have decided to wait until prices rise even further.

Passion for Conrad bears fruit 50 years on

Article Abstract:

Frenchwoman Odette Lamolle worked for many years to translate 26 novels by Joseph Conrad, having found earlier translations of his work too old-fashioned. It was not until she was in her 80s that her work came to the attention of a Paris publishing house, Editions Autrement. This concern has now published 10 Conrad novels which she has translated, and an 11th is to be published soonn. This is a remarkable achievement for a woman who has never actually visited the UK.

The ultimate flying doctor saves the day with 6,000-mile errand of mercy

Article Abstract:

A 47-year-old woman on the US scientific team based at the South Pole has received emergency medical supplies after discovering a lump in her breast. The medical supplies were delivered by a US Air Force crew on a 6,000-mile, non-stop round trip. The aircraft was guided by a chain of burning fuel barrels, as there is no daylight during Antarctica's nine-month winter. It is believed that this was the longest peace-time mission ever flown by the US Air Force.
