Mr Blair, it is time to turn your attention to the troubles here

Article Abstract:

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair must recognize that a reforming government has to balance the need to encourage groups such as medical professionals to accept change against the need to ensure that morale does not deteriorate. Blair must be aware of the danger of becoming very popular abroad while within the UK itself his reforms stall and his popularity declines. He has shown significant diplomatic abilities with regard to Northern Ireland and Kosovo, Yugoslavia, but there are problems with his domestic reform programme.

What the Arts Council could learn from the Medicis

Article Abstract:

The controversy surrounding the appointment of Gerry Robinson as Arts Council Chmn highlights the fact that much debate about the arts in the UK is ill-informed. In particular, the desire to make a clear distinction between business and culture is unwise. It seems that Robinson wishes to simplify the Arts Council into a policy body, with the regions gaining responsibility for distributing their own funds. He also wishes to put an end to the tendency for the Arts Council to invest in buildings rather than people.

Article Abstract:
