Mr Clarke could turn out to be bad news for Labour

The UK Labour party would be negatively affected if Kenneth Clarke were to become leader of the Conservative party. Clarke supports UK membership of European monetary union, and his leadership of the Conservative party would remove an excuse for not holding a referendum on this issue.
