Mr Major's house of horror

Article Abstract:

Lord McAlpine provides 17 Great College Street, London, England, for the anti-party group which campaigns against the ratification of the Maastricht treaty, led by MP (Member of Parliament) Bill Cash. Sally Richard manages proceedings with young, unpaid political activists. Computers and other electronic equipment are donated. Many senior people from banks, trade associations and the City privately support the operation. Briefing papers explain policy implications of the Maastricht Bill and the implications of challenging votes.

Stand up to them, Mr Smith

Article Abstract:

Leader of the Labour Party, John Smith, has pledged that his successor will be elected by the direct vote of individual party members even though he was swept into power by the block votes of the unions. It has already been agreed that the weight given at the annual conference to the union block vote will be reduced from 90% to 70%. The problem is, however, that there are only 200,000 paid-up members of the party compared to 4.5 million trade unionists who pay the political levy with their subscriptions.

I love Cyprus in the springtime

Article Abstract:

Spring can be a very good time to visit parts of Greek Cyprus which are away from the most popular tourist destinations. Nicosia is fascinating, even though it does not have the usual tourist attractions, and it is is well worth walking on the city's enormous 16th century Venetian wall. Other attractive destinations include the former monastery of Ayii Anargyri and the ski slopes and walks of the Troodos Mountains.
