Mullingar: a singular place
Article Abstract:
Mullingar is a town in Ireland, where there is a memorial to James Joyce, the author, who once lived there. The town, under an hour's journey from Dublin along the new highway, has a new railway station, and almost 1,000 homes are under construction. On the streets luxury cars can be seen. Close to Mullingar is the factory of Mergon International, which makes plastic parts for export all over the world. The town has attracted a number of other writers, including John Betjeman, Evelyn Waugh, and Thomas and Valerie Pakenham, keepers of Tullynally Castle, where opera is performed.

'The manly art of knocking senseless.' (boxing in Dublin)
Article Abstract:
Boxing remains a key element of Dublin's cultural life, even though many new cultural attractions have emerged over recent years. Audiences appreciate the skill, strength and determination which make a successful boxer, and boxing has become an attraction for whole families, rather than just men. Peace now seems to have been established throughout Ireland, but the fighting will still continue in the boxing ring.

Sue me, and I'll throw the book at you
Article Abstract:
There is continued contoversy over the identity of the hero in the 1950s novel 'The Ginger Man,' which is soon to become a film. The novel was certainly inspired by Gainor Stephen Crist, but he did not form the basis for Sebastian Dangerfield, its hero. The backgrounds of Crist and the book's author were similar, but Dangerfield was purely fictional. The author is now considering writing a second volume.
