Memories return to the town trying to escape from its harrowing past

Article Abstract:

The impact of the bombing of Pan Am 103 in Dec 1988 on the residents of Lockerbie, Scotland, the town hit by the wreckage, is discussed. The town lost 11 residents, but was never involved in the campaign for a trial.

Mystery of the missing rust-bucket, laden with a cargo of sickly child slaves

Article Abstract:

There is continued uncertainty about the fate of up to 250 children aged between eight and 15 who were handed over to slave traffickers by their impoverished families and departed by ship from Cotonou, Benin, in early April 2001. The ship was refused permission to land in Gabon and Cameroon.

First Couple appeal to home vote from the slaves' door of no return

Article Abstract:

President Bill Clinton has completed his 11-day tour of Africa with a visit to Goree Island, off the coast of Senegal, from where many Africans were despatched to slavery in the Americas. He acknowledged the horrors of slavery, but avoided making any form of apology for slavery in the US. He again emphasize the commitment of the US government to establishing closer trade and security links with Africa. There are mixed views among Africans about the prospects for partnership with the US.
