NHS tricked into hiring bad doctors

Article Abstract:

Evidence is emerging that National Health Service hospitals in the UK are shedding doctors who fail to meet acceptable standards by giving them misleading references with which they are enabled to find employment in other hospitals. This is because the formal system for dismissing badly performing doctors is extremely complex. The General Medical Council is now investigating this problem as a matter of urgency, as there could be considerable danger to patients.

Heart patients suffer lottery of care in NHS

Article Abstract:

There are significant variations in standards of care for heart patients treated by the UK National Health Service (NHS), according to Dept of Health research. In the worst NHS trusts, more than half of heart patients waited more than six months for treatment.

Doctors' chief attacks NHS as 'secretive and flawed.'

The UK's doctors must introduce checks on their procedures if they are to avoid being regulated by the government, according to General Medical Council Pres Sir Donald Irvine in a speech to be delivered to the Royal Society of Medicine.
