'Nam: how Hollywood won the peace

Article Abstract:

Many young Americans are extremely familiar with the events of the Vietnam war and with a wide range of military jargon, as they have seen many films about the subject. However, the Vietnam war was almost completely ignored by Hollywood while it was actually taking place, and all the films which now serve to embed the conflict in popular memory were actually made well after 1975. This is mainly because there was considerable controversy in the US at the time about the justice of the war, and the film industry did not wish to damage its reputation by becoming involved in this.

Life and soul of the Partridge

Article Abstract:

Comedian Patrick Marber established a successful partnership with Steve Coogan in Radio 4's 'Knowing Me, Knowing You,' which led to a television show. However, he has now changed direction, and is directing his first stage play, 'Dealer's Choice,' at the Royal National Theatre. He admits to being more interested in writing and directing than in acting, and generally only plays supporting roles, in which he has become less well known than Steve Coogan. However, he will team up with Coogan again for a six-part series of half-hour comedy-dramas.
