Nato pours in new firepower

Article Abstract:

Nato military action against Yugoslavia is being intensified as the UK and the US send large-scale reinforcements. The US is planning to double the number of its warplanes in the Balkan region, and may even call up reservists following a request from Nato for additional air-power. The UK is sending a second armoured battle group to support troops already in Macedonia and Greece. UK Foreign Secretary Robin Cook has emphasized that Nato will not permit attacks on ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, to continue.

Besieged Nato rejects Serb 'ploy.'

Article Abstract:

Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's offer to withdraw some troops from Kosovo, Yugoslavia, has been rejected by Nato. President Bill Clinton has stated that any progress is helpful, but has stressed the need for Milosevic to make further concessions. Nato emphasizes that it will continue its aerial attacks until Milosevic agrees to all its conditions for a peace deal. Large protests are still taking place in Peking, China, following the Nato bomb attack on the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.

UN forum on Afghanistan's future set for Berlin

Article Abstract:

All Afghanistan's ethnic and political groups will be represented at a forum on the political future of the country due to begin in Berlin, Germany, on Nov 26, 2001. However, the Taliban will not be present. The Northern Alliance will come to the talks in the strongest position.
