New strategy, but Clark's chief finds strength in traditions

Article Abstract:

Family-owned footwear concern C and J Clark is likely to undertake a full stock market listing by 1998, according to chairman Roger Pedder, who is also co-founder and non-executive director of out-of-town pet superstore chain Pet City. He does not feel that the company will find it hard to adjust to the pressures of a full listing, as it has already been acting like a public limited company for some time. He has already been making moves to strengthen the company's management team.

Toys rise above the recession

Article Abstract:

Toy manufacturers have trouble meeting demand for popular toys as fashion is unpredictable. Sonic 2 video game is the best seller in Christmas 1992 and Thunderbirds toys are in such demand that the market cannot keep up. Matchbox only acquired the licence to manufacture Thunderbirds toys in Jan 1992 so retailers are rationed. The familiar Barbie dolls, Trolls, Lego and boxed games are all selling well due to better marketing.
