Nine months ago, he said he could turn back her biological clock. Now time is running out

Article Abstract:

Kutluk Oktay, director of reproductive endocrinology and infertility at New York Methodist Hospital, undertook an operation in Feb 1999 to re-insert an ovary removed in 1998 from dancer Margaret Lloyd-Hart and subsequently deep frozen. He believed at that time that it would be between six and nine months before he would know whether the ovarian tissue was totally functional and producing hormones. It now appears that the operation has only been partially effective, with Lloyd-Hart continuing to have hormone replacement therapy and being unable to ovulate without the aid of drugs.

Police access to medical data 'a threat to research.'

Article Abstract:

Medical and legal experts advising the UK government have stated that existing legislation permitting the police and the courts to gain access to records detailing a person's DNA will have a negative impact on a national database on genes and lifestyle to be developed from 2002. The experts believe that fears about confidentiality will deter people from participating in the UK Population Biomedical Collection.
