No need to rubbish Rudolf

Article Abstract:

Ross MacGibbon's documentary 'Nureyev Unzipped' presents a negative view of dancer Rudolf Nureyev. It shows him as a rather second-rate dancer who disguised his faults with a strong stage presence. MacGibbon, who himself was a dancer with the Royal Ballet, seems to be very ungracious towards Nureyev, who in fact set new standards for men in ballet. He was also a strong force as director of the Paris Opera Ballet and nurtured a whole generation of extremely talented dancers.

Maori, queen of Scots

Article Abstract:

New Zealand cabaret artist Mika is aware that he appeals to gay men, but is keen to be admired by a wider audience. He has attracted attention from people of all sexual persuasions, but this has not prevented him gaining mainstream appeal. He is currently appearing at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, Scotland, where his show has an element of subversive charm. This is largely attributable to the presence of Kornisha and Cassandra, his female assistants.

Flirty Dancing

Article Abstract:

Tango, which began in the poor suburbs of Buenos Aires in the second half of the 19th century, is now establishing a strong presence in the UK. It has the merit of being an ordinary social dance, and therefore it does not feel so divorced from ordinary people as, for example, ballet. It has many sexual parallels, and is partly popular in the UK because it is associated with the romance and warmth of Latin America.
