Nuclear issue is back on the world agenda

Article Abstract:

Nuclear testing is set to become a sensitive international issue again following the announcement by India that it has undertaken three nuclear tests. India's move will probably delay the coming into full operation of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. It may also put pressure on Russia, the US, China, France and the UK to abandon nuclear weapons completely. India is determined not to commit itself to ending nuclear tests while Pakistan still has the technology to build a nuclear weapon.

Giants who outgrow the back pages

Article Abstract:

Sporting heroes must above all be exceptionally talented in their sport. This will be enough to ensure that they receive extensive media coverage. However, they will receive even greater coverage if they behave unpredictably and sometimes very badly. Sporting heroes of this kind include footballer Paul Gascoigne and Chicago Bulls player Denis Rodman. The most successful sporting heroes are those who embody a country's image of itself.
