Nursing ambitions

Article Abstract:

The transfer of nurse training from hospitals into higher education in the UK has boosted the need for high-quality research. In response, there have been significant changes in the area of higher education health-based courses. A number of innovative research projects are underway at the School of Health and Social Care at South Bank University, and the University College of St Martin's, which now has a Centre for Advanced Nursing Practice and Research, has also seen research being given higher priority in the health profession.

Saving children from their monsters

Article Abstract:

The Kingsmead centre in Derby, England, is believed to be the only pupil referral unit for infant schoolchildren in the country. It supports 114 children who go to ordinary schools in the area, and takes six children for a year. Most of its pupils have statements of special educational needs, and many would otherwise be excluded from their schools. It aims to bring consistency to the children's lives, eliminating behaviour which would otherwise mean that they would later have to attend a special school.

Are you sure your children can talk?

Article Abstract:

Many young children are being hampered in their language development because they are not talked to often enough by their parents and watch too much television. This means that they cannot communicate properly when they start nursery and school. This lack of language skills will prove a severe barrier to their further educational development. Children who have speech problems frequently exhibit demanding and aggressive behaviour too.
