Offering the broader picture

Article Abstract:

The Tate Gallery's role as home of the history of British art and the main repository for international modern art is threatened by the possibility of siting large-framed British canvases in the main building at Millbank. The public expect art galleries to provide challenge, innovation, guidance and excitement but also to see familiar works, pictures for which the gallery is internationally famous. The Tate Gallery is not displaying Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud or Stanley Spencer in 1992. Gallery director Nicholas Serota has rehung works annually but may lose the audience if he alters the collection.

The cloning of Andrew Lloyd Webber

Article Abstract:

Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber was once seen as rather shy and nervous, but he is now gaining a reputation as an astute multinational businessman. He has been able to change the nature of the export of theatre, persuading other people to fund purpose-built theatres for his productions in Germany and Switzerland. He has found that it is possible to 'clone' a show, and is earning vast sums of money from cloned productions across the world. He is now looking to move into musical films.

Something of a comic relief

Article Abstract:

Television and film writer Richard Curtis has had some outstanding successes, including 'Blackadder' and 'Four Weddings and a Funeral, ' and has recently received an Oscar nomination. However, he is not a particularly relaxed or confident person, and tries to avoid media attention. He is very protective about his personal life, and prefers to talk more about Comic Relief, the project which he set up with Jane Tewson in 1985.
