Olympic Way, Manchester, England

Article Abstract:

Manchester, England, is to bid for the Olympic Games 2000 against Sydney, Peking, Berlin, Brasilia and Milan. There is a new rail-link from the new airport terminal and a new tram network. Everywhere is decorated with the Olympic symbol and flags printed with 'Manchester 2000.' The 91 voters spend four days in each bidding city. If Manchester were successful, the Games would bring 4 billion pounds sterling and 11,000 permanent jobs to the city. There are no drawbacks to the site. The climate is excellent for athletes.

Do we need The Gap?

Article Abstract:

US clothing retailer The Gap now has 58 outlets in the UK, and has been extremely successful with its very careful and customer-oriented approach. Its clothes are always very attractively displayed, and its employees are trained extensively in customer relations. This approach has particularly appealed to the over 30s, who find high fashion stores too intimidating. However, it is now being copied by a number of retailers, and no longer stands out as it did when it first arrived in the UK in 1987.

Secrets of success in a woman's world

Article Abstract:

It has become increasingly common for men in the UK to seek employment in areas traditionally dominated by women. This is often because these jobs are seen as having better career prospects than those traditionally done by men. Some men have encountered hostility when choosing employment where women dominate, while others have been welcomed and have found themselves working in new ways.
