One man's battle against nostalgia

Article Abstract:

Architect Sir Richard Rogers runs a practice which operates as a co-operative, with one-third of the annual profits being shared and a third going to charity. He first came to public attention when, with partner Renzo Piano, he won the competition to design the Pompidou Centre in Paris, and has since worked on the Lloyd's building in the City of London. He believes that the UK offers a very good working atmosphere, but continues to make calls for informed patronage.

Alienation is off his menu

Article Abstract:

Many British people have a great deal of free time which they fail to use effectively, according to architect Richard Rogers. They should make more effort to express themselves, as Rogers himself has done through his extremely thoughtful and elegant buildings. He believes that it is possibly for everyone to enjoy high standards of civic culture, even in the centre of large cities.
