Deanne Beckwith, John Wood, and Geoffrey Adams on the Icsid Congress

Article Abstract:

The 17th Icsid Congress 'At the Crossroads. The Changes in the World-World of Change' was held between 17 and 23 May 1992 in Ljublijana, Slovenia. The keynote address was delivered by Stefano Marzano, entitled: 'Towards a new design ethic'. Environmental issues were tacked by the recently appointed Minister of the Environment for Slovenia, together with Evelin Moller, lecturer; John Kusz, head of a recycling company; Niels Peter Flint, 02 International president; Vida Ogorelec-Wagner, local moderator, and a Slovenian professor of economics. Design protection was also addressed at the congress.

Puerto Rican Cement Company Inc is the leading cement manufacturer in Puerto Rico. El Dia Pres Antonio Luis Ferre accumulated 142,071 shares last Feb 8, 1993 at the average of $23.30 each, raising his holdings to 9.61%. Ferre's action is noteworthy since he has never taken a substantial interest in any publicly traded firm before. His purchases are subject to several interpretations and should not be disregarded.

Article Abstract:

Local opposition to Martin Bourke, the governor of the Turks and Caicos Islands, is just one example of growing opposition to governors and governors-general of the UK's current or former West Indian colonies. Local politicians are now using defiance of the UK's representative as a way of gaining popular support. The main area of contention is the amount of power which the governor is allowed to exercise.
