Our party is in danger of being stranded on the left of Labour

Seize the moment or rue the day, Prime Minister

Article Abstract:

There is a strong expectation of change in the UK following the decisive victory of the Labour party in the recent general election. It is vital that the new government makes changes will the opportunity to do so is still open to it. The Liberal Democrats feel that they have played a key role in creating a suitable climate for change, and are now seeking a commitment to investment in education and health. They will also put pressure on the new government to draw up a viable environmental policy and to bring about democratic renewal.

We can only achieve our aims by co-operating with Labour

Article Abstract:

The UK Liberal Democrats do not intend to form a coalition or merge with the Labour party. The two parties will remain totally separate, and will continue to oppose each other on some issues. The Liberal Democrats will seek to negotiate strictly controlled areas on which cooperation with the Labour party will be possible, thus making real achievements in the national interest. The party wishes to ensure that politics in the UK is dominated by a progressive-liberal force and that it is at the centre of this movement.
