Pensions: start here

Article Abstract:

Some pensions experts feel that the UK government should be more open with ordinary people about the fact that state pensions are to be reduced, and should encourage more people to purchase a personal pension. There is a widely recognised need for private pension provision, but sales of regular-premium pensions policies in 1995 are likely to be only around half the level seen in 1991. This is partly the result of negative publicity about people being encouraged to leave good company pension schemes or to transfer existing retirement savings into a personal pension.

Building a bigger Crechendo

Article Abstract:

Crechendo, a London firm that organises playschools for pre-school-aged children, is investigating whether the concept is applicable to franchising and they have brought in a franchising consultant to investigate, two thirds of his fee being paid by the Department of Trade and Industry. The two founders are drawing only modest salaries of 15 thousand pounds sterling a year and the business plan of the company is well behind its planned progress. The fourth unit of five centres is at present being worked on instead of eight units being open by this stage.

Old mistakes continue to haunt GRE

Article Abstract:

Life insurance group Guardian Royal Exchange was fined 100,000 pounds sterling for not controlling two of its small tied sales outlets, Centrust and Coventry Investments Group. New management has stricter command but the company is still criticised for investment in three Italian insurance companies. In 1989 GRE had to repay 7 million pounds sterling to clients of defunct Doncaster agent Inter City Associates.
