Pet consumers: a closer look

A random telephone survey revealed that 48% of pets are kept as child companions. The pleasure of the animal's company far outweighs any utility, but dog owners cited protection. Consumers prefer pet products that are easy to use and not messy.

Increased demand for cats and their food and other needs because pet owners in smaller apartments cannot keep larger animals. Pure bred cats bring good profits. Sales of food and toys are also profitable.
