PhRMA comments blindside pharmacy: pharmacy leaders charge PhRMA with being 'divisive.'

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Assn (PhRMA) dealt severe blows to the pharmacy profession during a Jan 1999 Medicare conference in Congress. The PhRMA, for instance, suggested that patients shop around for prescription drugs to find the best bargains. It also cited a survey of pharmacies which showed price differences as much as 569% for pharmaceuticals. Pharmacy leaders responded by saying that the PhRMA is merely trying to divert attention from the increasing costs of pharmaceuticals and a proposed Medicare bill benefiting seniors.

Article Abstract:

Pharmacists should realize that their services may be needed in the event of a chemical or biological terrorist attack. Chemical and biological agents have been used for thousand of years and the threat of their use has increased since the 1970s. Signs that chemical agents are present include tears, choking and itching. On the other hand, biological agents can be detected by becoming aware of their means of delivery. These include bursting-type munitions, spray tanks and vectors.
