Sir Melville Arnott

Article Abstract:

Cardiologist William Melville Arnott qualified at Edinburgh University, Scotland, in 1931, and soon gained a reputation for his work on renal disease and hypertension. He served with the Royal Army Medical Corps during the second world war, and was once of the first medical officers to enter Belsen. He was subsequently appointed to the William Withering Chair in Medicine at Birmingham University, England, and played a key role in developing teaching and research at the Birmingham Medical School.

Article Abstract:

It is important to be aware that there are a number of potential health hazards associated with gardening. Garden soil contains several different bacteria, and contaminated injuries can have serious repercussions. Gardeners can fall victim to the tetanus toxin if they fail to have regular tetanus boosters, and contaminated garden injuries can also cause gangrene. Garden moulds can cause serious illnesses, especially in people whose immune system is not very strong.
