Police take action to stem ill-effects of the 250m pounds sterling 'golden backache.' (problems with police fitness in United Kingdom)

Article Abstract:

Police sickness in England and Wales is costing up to 250 million pounds sterling a year. Chief constables are now coming under strong pressure from Home Secretary Jack Straw to address this problem. Action is already being taken in Merseyside, England, where police officers are given time off during the working day to train and where canteen food is being made healthier. Officers with health problems are being encouraged to return to work in some capacity, thus making them feel part of an effective team again.

Incompetent dentists facing tough new curbs

Article Abstract:

The UK government plans an amendment to the Dentists Act 1986 which would ensure that action is taken against dentists who undertake poor quality work or make charges for work which has not been carried out. The regulations will apply to dentists who are working privately after having been censured by disciplinary bodies following concerns about the standard of their work under the NHS. The government is reacting to claims by the General Dental Council that it lacks powers to deal with these cases.

Is it steroids or an overdose of vanity that turns bodybuilders into dangerous men?

Article Abstract:

Anabolic steroids are not responsible for acts of violence undertaken by people who use them, according to recent research undertaken at Manchester University and the University of Wales. It is much more likely that the violence is attributable to the selfish personalities of individual bodybuilders. Some bodybuilders have histories of violence, while others experience psychological difficulties. These are often exhibited in excessive vanity.
