Politicians must tread with care on the path of disaster

Article Abstract:

Politicians asked to comment on the train crash near Paddington station, London, England, have generally taken considerable care to avoid making party political statements, recognizing that the scale of this disaster would make such an approach appear inappropriate and insensitive. However, the reasons for the crash are not a subject above party politics. It is vital that there is political debate about investment in safety by the privatized rail companies and whether the rail network should be equipped with additional safety features. Politicians recognize that ordinary people do not wish them to use a tragedy to gain publicity for themselves.

There's one position a political donor should never ccupy

Article Abstract:

There is a debate as to who should be the director general of the British Broadcasting Corp (BBC). Alan Yentob has been suggested as one candidate, and he is suitable in many ways. Greg Dyke is also a candidate, but there is concern about his donation of some 50,000 pounds sterling to the United Kingdom Labor Party. The BBC director general should be politically impartial because this is a public service post which involves control over the output of broadcasting.
