Politics turns on the youth of America

Article Abstract:

The controversy surrounding President Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky has gained widespread attention among young Americans. For many young people, the main factor could be the protection of privacy and the extent to which Clinton's privacy has been invaded by conservatives. For this reason, it will be difficult for the Republicans to make Clinton's poor moral example a key issue in the Nov 1998 congressional elections. Many young people may turn against the Republicans, feeling that Clinton should not be impeached.

Middle America braced for deluge

Article Abstract:

There is still strong support for President Bill Clinton's record in office among ordinary Americans, but there are indications that his personal popularity has waned following the revelations about his affair with Monica Lewinsky. The US is now facing a constitutional crisis, and there is considerable concern about how Clinton's actions may affect Congressional and gubernatorial elections in Nov 1998. Some 30 city newspapers across the US have already told their readers that Clinton should resign.

Groundswell of sympathy for Clinton

Article Abstract:

There has been a muted reaction among ordinary Americans to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton. Few people have openly welcomed his impeachment. Indeed, his popularity seems to have increased. Many Americans accept that Clinton did wrong, but do not feel that he should be removed from office. He is particularly strongly supported by African Americans, who have deep sympathy for him and his family. Many people feel that he should be given a second chance.
