Pop-star posse in with a bullet

Article Abstract:

Many rock musicians have been attracted to Western films. Most recently, David Bowie has unveiled a new venture, a Western fable entitled 'My West.' He will appear in this film as a hard-hearted villain seeking to kill Harvey Keitel. Some observers believe that rock musicians are attracted to Westerns because Westerns and rock are both male-dominated genres. Some rock musicians have been quite convincing in Western roles. They include Roy Orbison in 'The Fastest Gun Alive' and Kris Kristofferson in 'Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid.' However, others have been less successful.

What's the story ...?

Article Abstract:

There is growing interest in the UK in books by or about pop stars. It is possible for such books to be produced without the permission or even the knowledge of the pop star concerned, as long as they contain nothing libellous and do not breach copyright regulations. Many of these books are written by music journalists, who are able to make use of their network of contacts to gather a range of facts. Those which are unauthorised are produced quickly and cheaply, while publishers which opt for an authorities biography can find costs much higher.

Try not to trash the place

Article Abstract:

The rock documentary is undergoing a revival as part of a wider trend in which television dramas have rock groups as a central feature. Latest rock documentaries feature serious boy bands, rather than showing groups behaving rebelliously. The rock documentary's return has been prompted by the trend in rock music towards the most established performers becoming establishment figures, while the government is giving official support to young unemployed people seeking to establish a career in rock music.
