Professor Robert Cawley

Article Abstract:

Psychiatrist Robert Cawley studied zoology at Birmingham University, England, and then studied for a PhD in the department of medical statistics. He undertook part-time research in medical statistics and social medicine while working his way through medical school. He trained as a psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital and Institute of Psychiatry in London, England, and then helped to set up the department of psychiatry at Birmingham University. He became a consultant to the Bethlem Royal and Maudsley hospitals in 1967, and in 1975 was appointed foundation Professor of Psychological Medicine at King's College Hospital, London, and the Institute of Psychiatry.

Dr P.H. Connell

Article Abstract:

Psychiatrist Philip Connell developed a strong interest in music at an early age, and considered making music his career. However, he studied medicine at St Bartholomew's Medical College in London, England, qualifying at the age of 30. He undertook postgraduate psychiatric training at the Maudsley Hospital in London, and then became consultant in charge of developing a new psychiatric service for children and adolescents at the Newcastle General Hospital. After six years, he took up a consultant appointment at the Maudsley, and held this post until his retirement in 1986.

Anthony Storr

Article Abstract:

Writer and psychiatrist Anthony Storr was born in London, England, in 1920. He studied medicine at Christ's College, Cambridge, England, and joined the Royal College of Physicians. He later trained as a Jungian analyst, and his first book was published in 1960.
