Psion shares crash as Microsoft moves in on palmtop market

Article Abstract:

Hand-held computer manufacturer Psion saw pre-tax profits decline by 29% in the year to Dec 1997 from the previous year to 11.43 million pounds sterling. The company was negatively affected by the strength of the pound, which cut sales by 12 million pounds sterling and profits by 6 million pounds sterling. It is also facing strong competition from leading companies such as Microsoft. The PC in your mailbox

Article Abstract:

The UK police are believed to be close to reaching a deal with Internet service providers that will permit them to monitor customers' electronic mail communications and web usage. The Internet Service Providers Association emphasizes that all its members believe that electronic mail messages are private, but is also keen to see steps taken to ensure that the police are not required to take away critical servers for evidence. Some observers believe that monitoring electronic mail would be an infringement of personal freedom.
