Keeping bad blood off the airwaves

Article Abstract:

The BBC World Service's Serbian and Albanian staff have been working together since the beginning of Jun 1998 to ensure balanced coverage of the conflict in Kosovo, Yugoslavia. They have pooled information and reports, and even some footage. Relations between the two sets of staff are eased by the fact that they are working in London, England, rather than very close to the conflict. The Albanian service is very influential, being listened to by 53% of all adults in Albania.

Are you being served?

Article Abstract:

Radio 5 Live's new Sunday morning programme, 'Sunday Service,' is designed to be a mixture of humorous and serious elements. Some 60% of the programme is recorded live, with the remaining 40% being made up of complex pre-recorded segments. Its presenters, Fi Glover, Andrew Pierce and Charlie Whelan, introduce frequent changes of tone. This programme is a very brave step for Radio 5, especially at a time when topical satire is in a very poor state.
