Return of the living dead

Article Abstract:

A case brought by singer Phil Collins following the release of bootleg CD copies in Germany of a concert he held in the US in 1983 has had wide-reaching consequences. It has eventually come to affect large areas of copyright legislation, causing considerable confusion in the publishing industry. Traditionally, work has lost copyright protection 50 years after the author's death, but this will no longer be the case. The rest of Europe must now come into line with Germany, where copyright lasts for 70 years after an author's death or from first posthumous publication.

Sigrid de Lima

Article Abstract:

Novelist Sigrid de Lima was encouraged to read and write from an early age. She studied at Hiram Hadyn's workshop at the New York School for Social Research, and this led to the publication of her first novel, 'Captain's Beach,' in 1950. This novel was followed by 'The Swift Cloud' in 1952, 'Carnival by the Sea' in 1954 and 'Praise a Fine Day' in 1960. Negative reaction to her fifth novel, 'Oriane,' published in 1968, prompted her to stop writing.
