Rich men behaving badly

Article Abstract:

The high profile figures who have become associated with anti-Europeanism in the UK resemble in some ways a number of unusual characters from literature. Sir James Goldsmith and his Referendum Party, for example, remind onlookers of characters in the series of novels by Simon Raven. In particular, extensive investment in advertising is very reminiscent of Raven's world, where various characters manage to do rather well against chance and time. Raven was well aware of the extent to which aristocratic values have coped with the difficult conditions which often arise in British commerce.

Not just men behaving badly

Article Abstract:

Asperger's syndrome is a type of autism which can be found in adult men. Sufferers tend not to be able to communicate easily, and write lists obsessively. They may not be diagnosed in childhood because they may appear well-behaved and hard working, and they can devise ways of coping with their condition. These include memorising when to make social comments and ways of answering the telephone. The condition can be inherited, though this does not always happen.

Sons damaged by fathers behaving badly

Article Abstract:

Boys from inner city areas who have poor care from their father are more likely to develop behaviour difficulties in their teenage years than those who have good paternal care. Where fathers are absent, or are hostile or violent, their sons can become aggressive and disruptive, and are often involved in truancy or theft. New research indicates that poor quality father-son relationships cause more damage than being brought up only by a single mother.
