Racism, abuse and complacency

There is widespread complacency in the UK about the high level of racial abuse directed by football fans towards black players. The police seem unwilling or unable to take action against fans who persistently chant racial abuse.

It has become common in the UK for young professional footballers to drink very heavily, often leading to violent incidents. Such behaviour is found among other sections of society, but footballers are now scrutinized very closely by the media.
