Say a prayer for the tin-box church

Article Abstract:

A 100 year old tin church near Bath in Avon has been renovated into living accommodation. Despite near dereliction and fierce gales, Graham Boys has made a residence out of the church built by the Victorians. Planning permission has been granted for residence and Boys hopes to get grants towards extensive repairs. The church was probably originally bought cheaply by mail order from London. It is quite ornate with coloured windows and a lantern tower.

The village that's just too good to be true

Article Abstract:

Castle Combe, Wiltshire, with its 15th century cottages, was called Britain's Best Village in the 'Good Weekend Guide' published in Dec 1992. In 1932 the British Tourist Authority found it to be the prettiest village in England. Preservation of buildings makes the village attractive, but it is no longer a 'working' village. Old villagers move to council houses and the cottages are owned by middle class incomers. There is no community spirit.

Party stalwarts concerned over drift from socialism

Article Abstract:

New attitudes in the Labour Party designed to attract more voters do not suit the traditional working class supporters. Labour politicians no longer relate to everyday problems. Wirral party chairman Paul Davies, Vauxhall Motors senior shop steward Ken Murphy and union leader Pat Moylan give their views. The party is departing from socialism to become more electable.
