Germany's Beate Uhse chain of sex-shops has become extremely successful. There are now outlets in all large and medium-sized German towns, and the business also produces erotic publications and runs Internet sites. Sales in 1998 were DM169 million, and sales are forecast to rise to DM235 million in 1999. The company is now listing on the SMAX, the segment of the Neuer Markt in Frankfurt, Germany, which deals with established family businesses. The listing will raise funds for expansion into the Internet, Western Europe, the US and Eastern Europe.
