'Sexual McCarthyism' provokes an outcry among Republicans

Article Abstract:

Republicans have claimed that the White House was responsible for revelations that Republican Senator Henry Hyde had an affair with a married woman more than 30 years ago. Republican Congressmen have made a written request to Louis Freeh, the head of the FBI, that the revelations about Hyde be investigated. There have been a number of attempts to damage the reputations of members of Congress involved, or likely to become involved, in matters relating to President Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky.

A long dying ends with a vicious irony

Article Abstract:

Former French president Francois Mitterrand had spoken very openly about his health problems for some time before his recent death. This had served to make his dying seem almost a permanent state. He often detailed his attitude to death, and was determined to give his side of the story about his relations with the Vichy regime before he died. He often failed to observe the natural border-line between the public and the private.
